real budgies

Hidden in the trees chattering away live thousands of budgerigars on the dry desert fringes.  They always seem so chirpy and happy to be going about their life with a mate. One of my absolute favourite birds. Advertisements

seaton’s farm: a labour of love and necessity

You can still smell the sweat and feel hard work that has gone into the property as you wander around the Seaton Farm.  Farming in the late depression years was challenging.  The Seatons worked the land, built the structures, created dams and these marvellous fences. This property is a credit to the Seatons and their endurance, courage and tirelessness. The property is part of…

refreshments at nindigully

What more can you ask for –  a great camp spot overlooking the Moonie River (in southern Queensland) on one side and the Nindigully Pub on the other side.  Refreshing all round!

the warrumbungles revisited

In January 2013 the Warrumbungles was devastated by severe bush fires.  The landscape was in tatters.  Visiting there in July 2013 was sad indeed, although there were signs of recovery as this earlier post shows. australian humour

Going out for early morning walks reveals some of the hidden characters of regional Australia. This scene is in a sidestreet of Mendooran, New South Wales.

a powerhouse of street art

The Geelong Powerhouse has not generated power for over 45 years and sits abandoned.  Well, nearly abandoned, except for an awesome display of legal street art from 220 plus artists.  It is worth noting the building is some 6 stories high and covers 3000 square metres. Here are my favourites ……

red belly in the herb garden

Maybe he/she thought the herb garden was a herpetarium! Obviously good hunting grounds for small marsupials has seen this red belly snake (pseudechis porphyriacus) return on several occasions to seek out its prey on warmer summer days here at Serendipity.  Oh well, not all critters in a wildlife sanctuary are human friendly! Pretty much ignoring me while I took the photos, except towards the end,…

a scene from a movie?

This accommodation was comfortably sitting on the beach at Dunk Island looking south across to the more exclusive Bedarra Island.  Not a bad way to spend some time away from it all on a near deserted tropical island!

no 7 at the country show

Not sure whether or not no 7 gave the same look to the judges on the day.

air mail

And there I was thinking the mailman was just skipping our place!
